World's Top 100 Universities 2014, Harvard Again Topped

Harvard has once again topped the Times Higher Education's reputation ranking of worldwide universities published in 2014, with US institutions taking almost half of all the places on the top 100 list.

An elite group of six US and UK "super-brands" again dominate the world's top 100 university ranking which was published by the Times Higher Education Magazine. Harvard University continued to rank the world's No. 1 institution in term of university brands, followed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University and University of Cambridge.

In total, the U.S. claimed 46 spots in the top 100 list, followed by the U.K with 10 universities listed and Germany with six.

Asia's strongest performer by a distance is Japan, with five top 100 representatives. While, Chinese mainland have two universities among this important list of the 50 most prestigious universities in the world.

The rankings also highlight a big improvement for Germany which now has six universities represented in the top 100 - the third highest representation in the list behind the US and the UK.

Cambridge and Oxford are both down one place on last year's rankings which puts them in fourth and fifth place respectively. The University of California, Berkeley, Princeton, Yale, California Institute of Technology and the University of California, Los Angeles take the remaining places in the top 10.

The US, with 46 institutions in the top 100, is named as an "undisputed superpower when it comes to university brands" by the creators of the list.
