Public Varsities not to Take Combined Admission Test

No combined tests this year

Public universities in Bangladesh are not interested in the combined admission test system for all universities, said Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on August 23, 2016.

He came up with this comment at a workshop in Bangladesh Bureau of Educational Information and Statistics (BANBEIS). BANBEIS arranged the workshop on strategies to conduct the Annual Education Survey (Online)-2016.

The online survey beginning on September 20, 2016 will collect information from 40,000 educational institutions including high schools, colleges and universities.

Noting that, big universities in 2014 had agreed to hold the combined admission tests, Nahid said adding that they, however, announce the date of admission unilaterally before publishing the result of the HSC examination.

Account BenefitHe also said although the government provides them cent percent money, the Education Ministry's power is zero regarding them. "They're autonomous and independent. So we can't use force on them", he added.

The minister expressed the hope that the universities will realize the importance of the combined admission test system to ease the sufferings of students and parents.

The function was presided over by the director of BANBEIS M. Fashiullah. The function was also addressed by Education secretary Sohrab Hossain, additional secretary to the ministry M. Helal Uddin and Dhaka Education Board chairman Professor Mahbubur Rahman among others.
