Technical admission 30% by 2030

To utilize the talent of the next generation, enrolment in technical education will be raised to 30% by 2030 which stands at 13% at present, said Education Secretary Md. Sohrab Hossain.

Education Secretary Md. Sohrab Hossain on June 21, 2016 (Tuesday) said this as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of 15 days training program for increasing the efficiency of master trainers at Teachers Training College (TTC), Tejgaon.

The intellectual capacity of our new generation is not poor. Their talent is world class. Human resource is our main asset and the youths are our strength. If we can give them proper knowledge and skills, they will easily find jobs.

He said, "In 2008, the percentage of enrolment in technical education was 1.2. As the government emphasized on this type of education, it is above 13% at present." He said, the government's goal is to promote technical education and its benefits across the country.

In order to achieve this goal, the education authorities are working in full swing. We have a target to take enrolment in vocational education at 20% by 2020 and 30% by 2030.

Account BenefitThe World Bank has provided Tk. 800 crore to strengthen technical and vocational skill development in the country. The fund has been allocated to the Skill and Training Enhancement Project with a view to creating 420,000 job placements in the domestic market as well as outside the country.

Bangladesh has made progress in the development of human resources. The country has achieved the status of lower middle income state and is on its way to become an upper middle income country. The World Bank will provide $1.6 million in the education sector.

In 2010, the Bangladesh government, the World Bank and Canada jointly implemented the Skill and Training Enhancement Project under the Ministry of Education's Directorate of Technical Education.
