President Abdul Hamid Warns about Merchandising Education

President at NUB 3rd Convocation

President Abdul Hamid underscored the need for ensuring quality education at all higher levels so that no one can raise questions about its standard.

He also warned those trying to do business out of turning education into a product. "Nowadays questions have been raised against some private universities with regards to their fulfilling the expected standard."

"We have to ensure that no one can raise questions over the standard of higher studies at every level", the President said this while addressing the third convocation of Northern University Bangladesh (NUB) held at Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium on April 26, 2015.

4,600 students were awarded with undergraduate and graduate degrees at the convocation, of which, four were awarded with a gold medal for their outstanding academic performance. They include Mousumi Bardhan and Irfanul Haque from the Business Faculty, Ulfat Ara from the Faculty of Health Science and Md. Rezaur Rahman from the Faculty of Law.

Other speakers at the Convocation included Mr. Nurul Islam Nahid, Hon'ble Education Minister; Mr. AK Azad Chowdhury Chairman, University Grants Commission; Dr. Abu Yousuf Md. Abdullah, Chairman of NUB Trust; Dr. Anwarul Karim, Acting Vice-Chancellor of NUB; and Mr. Md. Anwar Hossain, Treasurer of NUB.

Congratulating the new graduates on the occasion of the convocation, Abdul Hamid advised the graduates to devote themselves to the task of nation-building activities.

"You, the graduates are the important human resource of the country, today's convocation is giving recognition to your achievement and on the other hand, it is also giving you responsibility towards your family, society and above all towards the country and nation", said the President.
