50 percent of costs increased

Infrastructure development costs for the 70 Post-Graduate Colleges located in the country's 64 districts are increasing by 49.06 percent. The project period also extended three years.

The total allocation for the modified project is being kept to Tk. 976 crore 57 lakh and 6 thousand. Planning Commission sources said, the project may be presented on January 06, 2015 to modify at a meeting of the Executive Committee of National Economic Council.

The project of Tk. 655.12 crore titled "Development of Government Post Graduate Colleges in the district headquarters to improve education quality" was approved at the ECNEC on October 12, 2010. Cost of the project is increased 49.06 percent due to the rate schedule changes and modification to the project.

26.32 percent of allocation money has been spent on the project until June 2014. According to the sources, the base foundation of the academic-cum exam halls of Dhaka College, Eden College, Titumir College and Bengali College has been increased to 10-sorey instead of 5-storey.

In addition, boundary wall, gate and internal roads for the girl's hostels of 62 colleges instead of 53 colleges will be done in the modified project. Planning Commission said, this project has been undertaken for the improvement of education quality, teachers training, furniture, scientific equipment, books and reference materials, computer and accessories of country's 70 post-graduate colleges located in 64 districts.

Member in charge of social and economic infrastructure department of the Planning Commission, Humayun Khalid said the existing institution's physical infrastructure, the construction of classrooms and lab facilities will be increased if the project implemented. It will be easier for the students to achieve higher education.
