SUST students formed human chain

Students of Business Administration Department of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) formed a human chain, demanding the withdrawal of a student's expulsion.

Shahjalal University of Science and Technology syndicate on July 11, 2014 expelled a student, also an activist of Bangladesh Chhatra League, for two years, and prohibited a former student from entering the campus, on charge of stalking a female teacher.

Khalid Hussain is a Masters student of Business Administration Department while Shafiqul Islam Shafiq recently completed his Masters from the same discipline, and both are involved with the activities of BCL, sources present in the syndicate meeting said.

A five-member committee led by professor Yasmeen Haque had been constituted to probe the incident and the syndicate decision was taken on recommendation of the probe committee report, the sources said.

SUST teachers' association president Faruk Uddin, who was present at the meeting, confirmed the news of expulsion. He said the syndicate has also warned Shafiq not to enter the university campus in the future.
