NSU Student Selected for Canadian Immigrant Award

NSU student: Manwar Khan

Manwar Khan, a student of North South University who transferred his credit to the University of Lethbridge has been selected as one of 75 finalists in the prestigious RBC Top 25 Canadian Immigrant awards for his leadership role.

The RBC Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Awards recognize and celebrate the stories and achievements of outstanding Canadian immigrants who inspire newcomers and Canadians alike and who make positive differences in Canada.

Manwar Khan is leading a province-wide grassroots movement as an Anti-bullying Activist in Canada to raise awareness about bullying and to encourage people not to be bystanders when they see bullying taking place.

It was the influence of a tragic event, took place On December 28, 2012 when he witnessed an escalation of bullying behaviour and violence that ended in the tragic death of a passenger in the Edmonton LRT (Light Rail Transit). Manwar desperately tried to stop the attack.

Account BenefitFor his heroic efforts, he received significant media attention along with letters of support from public, friends, colleagues and special commendation letters from the Premier of Alberta. In the aftermath, Manwar wanted to take a stand against bullying and make a lasting difference in Canada.

Manwar has successfully organized several rallies in major cities of the province where many Albertans joined him to show their supports. In addition, the mayors from both Edmonton and Lethbridge have attended his rallies held in their cities, and they commended him for his initiative to empower bystanders.

Manwar went to Canada to study Computer Science in 2001. After graduation he started his career with the Alberta Public Services.
