New JU VC - Prof. Dr. Anwar Hossain

Jahangirnagar University (JU) welcomed their new VC few days ago with much enthusiasm. The name of the new VC is Dr. Anwar Hossain. On the crisis of demanding resignation of ex VC Dr. Shariff Enamul Kabir, he was appointed as new VC of the JU by the President Zillur Rahman, who is also chancellor of universities.

Dr. Anwar Hossain was a professor of Bio-Chemistry Department in Dhaka University. His hometown is Netrokona. In his personal life he is very honest, sincere and dedicated person. After joining JU as VC he tried to solve the existing problem of the University.

At first, he tried to tie relationship among students and their organization running in the University except Shibir. He legislate some rules for the students about their safety. He united the two different Bangladesh Chattra League unit of JU. He also gave the committee of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) of JU branch.

His other duties, as he thinks are to give the election of dean, election of JUCSU. In education sector he tried to take permission to open the PhD syllabus, weekend M.S, M.S in IT etc. In this case he seems to be very dedicated. After his arrival at JU, he ordered to take initiatives to plant trees & protect the biological scenery. He also stopped the lease of the beautiful pond of the JU. These are the vast activities of the new welcomed VC of JU and students also welcomed his new activities.

Recently Jahangirnagar University (JU) declared Tk 90.40 crore budget for fiscal year 2012-13 in the 31st syndicate meeting presided by him.

He insisted on the arrangement of the Election of JUCSU as soon as possible. He also expressed his eagerness to arrange strongly ensue for the materialization of the as per the 1973 University Act, the Vice Chancellor Panel Election in the Senate as soon as possible.

The Vice-Chancellor strongly urged for the materialization of the separate salary scale for the teachers that the government has taken initiative of as soon as possible.

The Vice-Chancellor said that Jahangirnagar University has every potential to develop itself as a leader in higher education and, thus, contribute to the formation of a knowledge-based society and modern Bangladesh. With a view to materialize ‘Sonar Bangla,’ the common vision of Bangabandhu and thousands of martyrs of the Liberation War, let us build a Jahangirnagar University of our dream.

He said that he would take measures to ensure that the strides taken by Jahangirnagar University in the days ahead are made towards academic excellence and intellectual freedom. He said `Our aim is to build Jahangirnagar University as a national leader in creating centers of learning, teaching, and research. To ensure this, it is imperative to uphold the Jahangirnagar University Act 1973 that safeguards our autonomy. I seek your cooperation to discharge the noble responsibility that has been entrusted upon me. Jahangirnagar University has come a long way and it has a long way to go.
