Ghent University is a highly ranked Dutch-speaking public university located in Ghent, Belgium.

Ghent University was established in 1817 by King William I of the Netherlands. After the Belgian revolution of 1830, it was administered by the newly formed Belgian state.

In 1991, the university was granted major autonomy and changed its name from State University of Ghent to its current name. Students are come from different countries every year in order to achieve higher degrees of the university.

It is therefore considered to be a top university, globally. So, there is no lack of providing higher education at the university.

In the era of information technology, students can read the books by sitting in the library as well as can use the library in home through the Internet.

All UGent bachelor programs are taught in Dutch. English is only used in some Master programs (international programs). The common language in the Doctoral Schools is English. Only an enrollment for a full-time study is accepted to obtain the student status and to get a residence permit.
