Exam and blockade to be held together

BNP-led 20 party's alliance are still holds the decision to continue the blockade program during the upcoming SSC and equivalent examinations.

On the other hand, the government is determined to hold these examinations according to the decided schedule on February 02, 2015 despite the risks. But the examinations may be postponed for those days when Hartal called with the blockade.

Country's education system is in danger for continued Hartal/blockade declared by the BNP led 20 parties. About 15 lakh examinees of SSC and equivalent levels have been plunged in grave worry due to political unrest. Along with them their guardians and teachers are also seriously worried preparations for the examinations are being hampered.

Many have broken down mentally. The students and the guardians face widespread uncertainty as to whether the examinees would be able to appear at examinations without hindrance.

Meanwhile, the education secretary has sent to field level 8-point guidelines to ensure holding of examinations without obstacles and checking leakage of question papers.

The Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations 2015 will not be deferred in any condition, said the Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid. This year the SSC/equivalent exams under ten education boards will begin on February 02, 2015 (Sunday).

Asked whether the examinations will be held if the blockade continues, education minister Nurul Islam Nahid said, holding of examinations and publications of results have taken place on schedule over the last few years. The admission tests are also being held in time. There is no scope to defer the examinations.

Seeking cooperation of all for holding the examination the education minister said, the examinees are sons and daughters of not only Awami League families, they are the sons and daughters of the land, future of the country. I hope, the political parties will refrain from any such program that would cast adverse impact on the forward march of the future generation. He called upon BNP to withdraw the blockade program in the interest of the examinees.

"The SSC examinations will be held under creative question papers except Bangla second paper, English first paper, English second paper and mathematics", said the education minister Nurul Islam Nahid while speaking at a press conference in the capital. The minister also said the system was introduced in 2010 for a qualitative improvement in the education sector.

"We are bringing back discipline in the entire education sector to ensure a meaningful change for improving the quality of education", the minister said, adding now public examinations are being held in a specific time of the academic calendar. Besides, results of these examinations are also being published within a stipulated time, he added.

A total of 10,90,555 students will participate in the SSC examination under eight general education boards. Of the students, 5,36,217 candidates are male and 5,58,338 female. As many as 2,39,749 students will appear in the Dhakhil examinations while 1,02,423 students will participate in the SSC (vocational) examination.

At the press conference, the minister said the number of examinees have increased by 1,29,554 this year compared to last year. As many as 13,03,203 students appeared in the SSC and equivalent examinations in 2013. Of them, 6,68,268 students were male and 6,34,935 female.
