Notre Dame University Bangladesh Started its Journey

Orientation ceremony at NDUB

After a long waiting, educational activities of Notre Dame University Bangladesh (NDUB) begins on December 09, 2014. Established by the Missionaries of the Holy Cross, it has 272 students and 24 teachers.

At the moment, the subjects are English, economics, law, philosophy and business administration. Notre Dame University was held an orientation ceremony on December 04, 2014, which was attended by about 350 people.

Guest of honor was the retired bishop of Dhaka, mgr. Paulinus Costa. "This university will teach you truth and wisdom. You'll have to learn to be committed in your professional as well as personal life", said the bishop addressing the ceremony.

Fr. Benjamin Costa, Vice-Chancellor of the university, thanked the government and donors who contributed to the opening of NDUB. "As missionaries of the Holy Cross, we are committed to impart a quality-based education; to install in our students a true sense of patriotism and love for the people and for the country. With this purpose in mind, the first year of study will be the same for all students, which only on the second year will begin to specialize."

"We are deeply grateful to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Dr. AK Azad Chowdhury (Chairperson of the University Grants Commission) for this great gift. We dream of this university developing in the same line as Notre Dame College, which has served the people of Bangladesh for 64 years", added Fr. Costa.

In Bangladesh, Holy Cross missionaries are known and appreciated for their educational apostolate. The Notre Dame College was established in Dhaka in 1949 and today is considered one of the best colleges in the country.
