Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is one of the best and most sought-after universities in the world. Cutting-edge, high-impact research and an unparalleled focus on science and technology have propelled the university to the top of the QS World University Ranking 2013.

Located in the United States of America, MIT has students from almost every corner of the world. Its door is open for any students irrespective of their nationality or religion. Bangladesh has a lot of talents who are capable of studying in MIT. However, out of a false assumption or mere ignorance most of the students think that it is not possible for them to get a chance in MIT.

In order to dispel the myth and give students a clear idea on various aspects of the university, Dhaka University Reading Club (DURC) recently organised a session titled "What and How Students study in MIT".

The key speaker of the session was Moshahida Sultana Ritu, a former student of MIT and now Assistant Professor of Economics, Department of Accounting and Information Systems, Dhaka University.

In her 40 minute lecture she talked at length about the academic atmosphere of MIT, classroom activities, student-teacher interaction and so forth. Her lecture was followed by a lengthy question answer session.

Students and teachers are the two prime catalysts of any university. There is a two-sided phenomenon. One is external and another is internal. External one depends upon students' conduct with teacher while internal affairs associated with their psychology, how they interact with teachers.

Moshahida Sultana Ritu says: "The MIT ties up teachers and students in a fear free affair, which helps a student to be inquisitive. They consider where questioning is an offence there is no possibility of enlightenment. So in MIT students ask questions without being influenced by anyone and they ask it with confidence and eloquence."

"In classroom students are provided with many articles and they give a feedback after reading them. Often students prepare the academic materials through discussion. From which it is evident that students do learn more from their friends than teachers. Because each students hold different perspective and through sharing their ideas they learn how to analyse an issue from various angle."

"Teachers in MIT encourage students to sign up the subjects of their choice. Students are completely independent about what they will read and on what topics they want to work on. If someone does not like a specific doing, no matter, teacher allows him what he likes to do."

"In regard to doing thesis, students submit several topics to their supervisor, who then suggest them a topic. Even after choosing topic teachers do not allow students to go through many books. They are obliged to determine their hypothesis. Here students have to understand a social denominator of the thesis goes to. If hypothesis shows any negative impacts, then the fact analysis of negativity should have to be done. If positive, the positive fact analysis can be brought out. After doing this, supervisor allows a student to go through necessary books according to hypothesis."

MIT also boast of a picturesque campus. In praise of its campus, the speaker went on to say that "the campus is so beautiful and self-sufficient that many do not like to go outside."

The session concluded with the hope that Dhaka University will once again be able to make its mark in world stage.শিক্ষা সংক্রান্ত খবরাখবর নিয়মিত পেতে রেজিস্ট্রেশন করুন অথবা Log In করুন।
