How to Be a Diploma Engineer in Bangladesh!

Time is now for diploma engineers! Why this? Because anyone eligible can get a diploma engineering degree at less time with lower costs and gets a job.

Diploma in engineering in comparison to corresponding Bachelor of engineering or technology is lower but equivalent to comparative bachelor of science degree, e.g. diploma in engineering in electronics is lower in rank than bachelor of technology in electronics engineering but is equivalent to bachelor of science i.e. BSc in electronics or diploma in engineering in computers is lower in rank than bachelor of technology in computer engineering but is equivalent to bachelor of science i.e. BSc in computer science. Also Diplomas are little bit specific in nature e.g. Diploma in Engineering of Electronics Engineering may be in Advanced Communication Systems (ACS) or Integrated Circuits (IC) or Industrial Electronics (IE), etc.

Where to Study

There are more than 50 government diploma engineering institutes in Bangladesh. The full list is available in Eduicon. 4 diploma institutes are only for girls, situated at Dhaka, Chittagong, Rajshahi & Khulna. Moreover, 2 Engineering & Survey Institute at Rajshahi & Comilla, 1 graphic arts institute and 1 Glass & Ceramics institute at Dhaka. Moreover all polytechnic institutes are giving diploma engineering degree in Bangladesh.

Eligibility & Admission Process

For a four yearly diploma course, students have to pass SSC first. The minimum requirement is GPA 3.5. Students who are from science group, they have to get GPA 3 in math and higher mathematics. Students out of science group have to get GPA 3 in General Science and General Math.

Students are separated in two shifts. Students who have passed in the current year or two years earlier can apply for the first shift and students passed in any year can apply for the second shift. Admission test is of 100 marks where 50 marks for written and 50 score from SSC result. The written test held on Bangla and English (15 marks), Physics and Chemistry (15 marks), math (15 marks) and general knowledge (5 marks).

Subjects Are

Architecture, automobile, chemical, civil, civil (wood), computer, electrical, electronics, food, power, mechanical, printing, graphics design, glass, ceramic, electro-medical, marine, ship-building, surveying, mechatronics, construction, telecommunication, environmental science, refrigeration and air-conditioning, computer science & technology, architecture and interior design, garments design and pattern making, instrumentation and process control, data telecommunication and networking, aircraft maintenance engineering, mining and mine survey technology etc.

Agriculture Engineering

There are 13 agriculture training institutes in Bangladesh those gives 4-year diploma degree in agriculture technology. Seats vary from institute to institute, 100-250. Students of science group must have GPA 3 and out of science group students must have GPA 3 with GP 2 in Math and General Science for admission in these institutes. Successfully passed students will be able to get job from various government institutions and private organizations.

Textile Engineering

Textile engineering is one of the most valued subjects in Bangladesh. There are three textile engineering institute in Bangladesh, Textile Institute, Dinajpur; Textile Institute, Barisal and Textile Institute, Mymensing; each contains 80 seats. After diploma engineering in textile, anyone can graduate in the subject from DUET, Bangladesh Textile Engineering University or from any private universities.

Health Technology & Services

In this 3-year diploma course, students who have GPA 2 with GP 2 in higher math or general math can apply. There are 39 institutes for this course. Subjects are - Dental, Patient Care, Physiotherapy, Pharma, Radiology and Imaging, Integrated and Laboratory Technology etc.

Moreover, there is an institute at Chittagong for forestry science which is named Forestry Institute. Number of seats is 50 and students who have got GPA 3 in SSC will be able to apply.
