BKSP - Institute of Sports
Bangladesh Krira Shiksha Protishthan (BKSP) or Bangladesh Sports Education Institute is the national sports institute of Bangladesh.
BKSP is run by a Board of Governors, which is headed by the Minister of Youth and Sports. At this moment Brig Gen Emadul Haque, ndc,psc is the director general of BKSP. Lt Col Muhsin Alam, psc is the principal of this institute. Present management is bringing lot of changes in this institute.
BKSP admits students in different areas of sports such as athletics, basketball, cricket, football, gymnastics, hockey, swimming, shooting and tennis. Basic training programme is of maximum eight years for athletics, basketball, cricket, football, hockey, shooting, tennis. Students under thirteen years of age are admitted to class VII. But in the categories of boxing, gymnastics and swimming students below ten years of age are admitted to class IV. However, the age limit can be relaxed in case of exceptionally promising candidates.
Alongside sports training, BKSP provides general education to all of its students up to degree level under the syllabi of public schools and colleges. It is affiliated with the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education and the National University. An important aspect of BKSP is its Sports Science Department which offers courses on sports medicine, exercise physiology, sports psychology, nutrition, sports bio-mechanics, general theory and method of training. Its main objectives include identifying the sports talents in students and giving them support; to provide prospective coaches, referees and umpires to impart coaching to all national teams participating in international competitions.
It is residential and is located at Savar, about 28 km north-west of Dhaka city. The institute was established in 1986 with the objective of developing sports in Bangladesh. It is an autonomous institution managed by a Board of Governors headed by the Minister of Youth and Sports. The Director General is the chief executive of the institute. The Government-funded autonomous institute is located at Savar, near the capital Dhaka. Students are accommodated in four hostels for the boys and one for girls. In addition to accommodation, students are given food, medical treatment and sports materials. However, the students have to pay tuition fees which is determined on the basis of the income of the guardian.
The BKSP is an autonomous organization. The institute has four district wings including training wing, administrative wing, Sports-science wing and the Academic wing.
There's a director general who manages the institute which boasts five regional set-ups in Dinajpur, Chittagong, Khulna, Barisal and Sylhet respectively. Furthermore, it has superb accommodation, food and transportation facilities available in the premises which makes it a complete package for the athletes undergoing training programme here.
Each year, the BKSP selects raw talent for ten disciplines including athletics, boxing, cricket, football, gymnastics, hockey, swimming, tennis, volleyball and basketball. The selected athletes, mainly from ages 14 to 18, then get their training and grooming under a well thought out, smoothly organized training programme.
Education is, of course, essential besides the sports at the BKSP. The infrastructure is available for all the disciplines and the training is imparted by competent, qualified people including coaches and teachers.
A full day activity for all sports begins at 6.30am and ends at 6.30pm and encompasses training, school education, free time and homework periods. Discipline at BKSP is definitely the key to their success.
Needless to say, cricket remains the most popular of all ten disciplines. The BKSP have produced a number of front-ranking national cricketers including Mushfiqur Rahman, Shakib-Al Hasan, Raquibul Hasan and Abdur Razzak as well as prominent national players in other sports as well.
Their training programme is based on sports science which includes techniques, psychology and game sense. I was surprised to see that all these facilities are available under one roof at the BKSP and sports scientists are coordinating with the coaches for the development of the players for the future.
The BKSP's tremendous success seems to be the result of sound infrastructure, well-oiled system, competent staff and the will to improve sporting standards in the country. I sincerely advise the Sports Ministry in Pakistan to take a leaf out of the Bangladesh sports and raise a similar type of institution for the benefit of thousands of talented Pakistani sportsmen and women who are waiting out there to shine. শিক্ষা সংক্রান্ত খবরাখবর নিয়মিত পেতে রেজিস্ট্রেশন করুন অথবা Log In করুন।
